1. CAA PRESS RELEASE - PRIVATE AIRFIELDS
The CAA has issued a Press release that indicates that there will be regulation of all airfields in South Africa, including farm strips. According to the press release a Workgroup has been formed to “formulate regulations and technical standards that will regulate all landing and departure points in South Africa”. The purpose of these regulations is to ensure “all our aerodromes conform to internationally acceptable safety standards.” The full text of the release can be found at http://www.caa.co.za/press_files/2009/Index.htm

2. RAASA TO ISSUE ATHORITY TO FLY's
With effect from 4 May 2009, RAASA will commence the issuing of the Renewals of Authority to Fly's (ATF) for Non Type Certified Aircraft (NTCA) under 1200kg used for private flying only as well as the ATF renewals for NTCA under 600kg used for private flying and training purposes. A full list of the documentation required can be found on the RAASA website www.raasa.co.za
From that date the CAA will only be issuing the original ATF for the aircraft described above.
RAASA requires that the the application, as well as the inspection reports are completed on the new RAASA forms.
